If you’re bothered by lines between and above your eyebrows you might want to look into a Botox eyebrow lift — a fast, safe, and nonsurgical way to erase one of the deepest (and often earliest) wrinkles that appear on the face.

Botox Between Eyebrows Smooths Out So-Called Furrow Lines

Just about everyone develops one or more furrow lines between the eyebrows. They start to appear when the skin begins to lose elastin in the area so the skin can’t bounce back when the muscles underneath flex when you smile, frown, squint, widen your eyes in surprise or raise an eyebrow.

Over time, the muscles etch lines that appear between the eyebrows. Many people have some brow lines in their 40s. It’s not unusual, though, to see them develop in people still in their 30s or even their 20s.

Botox is an effective way to smooth out those lines without surgery. A brow lift with Botox involves injecting Botox directly between the brows to relax the muscles underneath. This lets the upper forehead muscles “pull” the eyebrows back up and into their original place, allowing the skin to smooth out.

The injections also help the eyes appear wider, helping rid that tired or sad look that often accompanies sagging brows.

Some patients also benefit from Botox injections at the ends of the eyebrows to relax those muscles as well. This can provide additional “lift” in the forehead area.

Eyebrow and Eyelid Coordination

Furrowed brows can lead to lowered eyelids, and many people choose to opt for the so-called blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). We do not recommend this, as it often leads to hyperactivity of the middle brow muscle region. The muscles in your forehead try to maintain the position of the brows by increased contractibility, which then leads to horizontal furrows on the forehead.

On the other hand, botox helps the facial muscles become used to relaxing, even as its effects wear off. And as these muscles stay loose, the skin smoothes out and erases lines and wrinkles.

Botox remains effective from 3-6 months. As muscles recover over time, new wrinkles and lines may appear. It’s perfectly safe to resume Botox treatment at this time.

Eyebrow Position Specifications

Eyebrow position differs between men and women. With women, the ideal brow position is above the edge of the brow ridge (superciliary arch), while with men they should be just on the ridge. The medial and lateral parts of the brow should be on the same, horizontal level.

Eyebrow surgery can lead to disbalance of the ideal brow position, and this is why many people choose botox.

To get the desired effect, we estimate the patient’s wishes and recommend possible solutions. The area of injection depends on which part of the brow the patient wants to correct, but it also depends on the condition of other muscles in the face. For first-time patients, we recommend gradual steps and work towards the final outcome.

A Botox Brow Lift is Fast, With Minimal Preparation and Recovery

After your consultation with Dr. Rochlin, you will be given instructions to prepare for your brow lift injections. You’ll be asked to not take blood thinners, including pain relievers, for a few days. That’s about it.

Afterward, you should avoid exercise for a couple of hours, but you can go back to a desk job or school. There may be some residual redness or soreness around the injection area, but that will go away after a few hours.
