During a consultation, you can discuss your cosmetic concerns and Dr. Rochlin can make recommendations for correction. Patients should be advised that mommy makeovers often do not take place until up to a year after the patient has given birth. Patients should also not plan on having any more children, as future pregnancy can have a negative effect on any correction from the mommy makeover.
Frequently Asked Questions about Mommy Makeover Cosmetic Procedures
What can I do about fat that does not respond to diet and exercise?
Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures designed for the permanent removal of fatty tissue. It is an elective operation in which the cosmetic surgeon removes undesirable, subcutaneous fat in isolated areas. These areas include the hips, thighs, abdomen, knees, ankles, face and neck. The fat is suctioned out with a thin tube called a cannula, which your cosmetic surgeon inserts through a small incision.
How can I correct loose skin on my abdomen?
The tummy tuck is cosmetic surgery designed to remove excess skin from the abdomen and, at the same time, tighten the abdominal muscles. It is indicated for patients with lax abdominal skin that results in bulging due to abnormal stretching of the muscles and skin, common after pregnancy.
Unlike liposuction surgery, which just removes fat, this operation involves removal of skin and fat, with tightening of the abdominal muscles. For this reason, it is more extensive than liposuction. The actual extent of surgery will depend on the amount of excess skin and the laxity of the abdominal muscles.
What options do I have to lift sagging breasts or restore breast volume?
Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to enhance the body contour of a woman unhappy with her breast size. It is often used to correct volume loss after pregnancy.
Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, restores a more youthful appearance to a woman’s breasts. This procedure can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple, if the patient desires.
A breast lift does not increase the fullness of the upper portion of the breast; it simply allows removal of sagging breast tissue and repositioning of the nipple. For this reason, breast lifts are commonly performed in conjunction with breast augmentation to increase the fullness and improve the shape of the breasts.
What is recovery like after a Mommy Makeover?
Expected recovery is between one to two weeks. It is important to begin walking the day after surgery to prevent blood clots from forming in the deep veins of the leg. You can resume light exercise after two weeks and more vigorous exercise after six weeks.
Some bruising is normal after surgery. This usually goes away in the first few weeks. Your incisions will be noticeable immediately following surgery but they will gradually fade and flatten for up to a year after surgery. You will also have some puckering around the incision after surgery. This will smooth out over a month or two.
In your initial consultation, Dr. Rochlin will evaluate your health, determine where your fat deposits lie, and carefully assess your skin tone. She will fashion a treatment plan best suites your needs. If you are a smoker, you will need to quit for a minimum of 4-6 weeks before surgery to minimize the risk of complications. Smokers are much more prone to delayed healing and wound breakdown.
