Breast Implant Revision Surgery
Scottsdale AZ & Gilbert AZ
Breast implant revision surgery may be needed for several reasons years after breast implants.
About Breast Surgery Revision
Breast revision surgery includes replacing or removing breast implants. Implants are warrantied, and most begin to weaken after ten years. At that point, many women are thinking about removing the implants, usually for these reasons.
- They want a different breast size
- They want to switch from saline to silicone gel implants or vice-versa
- The existing implants are showing signs of rupture, leakage, or migration (or the woman is concerned about this)
- They want a breast lift
Weight loss or weight gain can change a woman’s body, and most women want a balance between their body and breast sizes, particularly as they get older.
How to Prepare for Breast Revision Surgery?
Breast implant revision surgery is done under anesthesia or with IV sedation and is an outpatient procedure.
Patients who breastfed should have stopped at least three months before surgery. Patients will be asked to stop eating or drinking midnight before the procedure and to stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and supplements. They should also stop smoking.
What to Expect From Breast Surgery Revision?
Most revision surgeries last from three to five hours. Some women have swelling or bruising for a week or so following surgery. It may take up to three months to see full results. Almost all patients are pleased with the results whether they have had implant revision with lift, or implant removal for a smaller bust.
Breast Surgery Revision FAQs
Post-menopausal women may develop a lipoma, a pocket of fat that pushes an implant.
Revision surgery for breast augmentation can also correct symmastia, which is when implants have moved too close to the center of the breast and created a “uni-breast.”
