• What is a Vampire Facial?

By now you may have heard of something a little macabre sounding in the world of cosmetic procedures: it’s a ‘Vampire Facial’, made ever so intriguing by the likes of Kim Vampire FaceliftKardashian, among others. As the name implies, it has to do with blood – your blood – collected and transformed into ‘Platelet Rich Plasma’, also known as PRP. Once prepared, the PRP is injected into problem areas under your eyes, your forehead, your neck, décolleté, smile lines, the back of your hands or into deeper wrinkles in any area. The introduction of PRP stimulates collagen production, rejuvenating and tightening the skin in these areas to help you regain a youthful glow. The Vampire Facial is an aesthetic medical procedure, but the PRP that is used for the injections can be applied topically as well with the use of Rejuvapen. The Vampire Facial is also known as a Blood Facial or PRP Facial, but regardless of the name, the process is the same.

Will it hurt?

The procedure itself is minimally invasive and will be performed in your doctor’s office. Your Scottsdale cosmetic surgeon may offer you some pain management options prior to your procedure, but most patients find it tolerable with minimal analgesic intervention. PRP is applied just below the surface of your skin, and the process is safe, simple and effective.

What to Expect

To prepare the PRP, your Phoenix doctor will collect your own blood for the process. Because of this, allergic reactions are uncommon. No synthetic compounds or animal products are used, so there is no need for allergy testing prior to your Vampire Facial. So far, no allergy incidents have been reported by patients of this procedure, though you might experience some inflammation, mild irritation around the injection site, itchiness, tenderness or temporary discoloration. In most cases, these issues, if present, tend to resolve within forty-eight hours.

The Reveal!

The Vampire Facial stimulates natural collagen production, and will gradually increase the volume of collagen present in your skin. You are guaranteed to see immediate results, though once the initial inflammation goes down, it may take some time (weeks, not longer) to build the skin volume back up. The results are natural looking and long lasting, but not permanent. Since the treatment uses your own blood and platelets, there will be no hardening of the skin or any unnatural rippling that is sometimes seen with collagen injections. You will likely achieve the results you desire with only one treatment, but a plastic surgeon is the best resource to help you decide what will be necessary to get the look you want.
