PRP for Hair Loss Q & A

What is PRP Hair Loss Treatment?

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments inject a condensed collection of your own platelets into your body, which stimulate the body’s natural healing response and new cell growth. PRP hair loss treatment is proving to be a low-risk, highly effective treatment for both men and women. PRP treatments are non-surgical and have a very low risk of allergic reaction because the patient’s own blood is used. The healing properties of the plasma and white blood cells also limit the risk of infection.

How Does PRP Hair Loss Treatment Work?

PRP injections stimulate hair follicles and regrowth. When patients elect for this treatment for hair loss, the doctor takes a small sample of their blood and separates the platelets with a centrifuge. The PRP is rich in growth factors and is injected into the scalp. The PRP then stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal and boosts the hair follicles to begin growing again, possibly with thicker and fuller hair than before. Patients have treatments every 3-4 months and can be combined with other therapies to maximize results.

What Happens During PRP Treatment for Hair Loss?

The first step is to draw a sample of the patient’s blood and separate the platelets and plasma using a centrifuge. Then the patient’s scalp is numbed with a local block. Once the scalp is numb, Dr. Rochlin injects the PRP into the areas of the scalp where the hair follicles need to be stimulated into growth activity. Most patients will have a series of treatments with 3-4 months between treatments. Treatment doesn’t take long, and patients can immediately return to normal activities after the injections are complete. If you are concerned about thinning hair, make an appointment with Dr. Rochlin to determine if PRP treatments for hair loss will help to restore your hair.
