Injectable Fillers Q & A

What are Injectable Fillers?

Facial fillers are cosmetic tools such as hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, and collagen which improve the appearance of wrinkles, augment lips, rejuvenate skin, raise scar depressions, and replace volume loss in the soft tissues of a patient’s face. Dr. Rochlin specializes in the use of hyaluronic acid fillers. They are mainly used for the treatment of wrinkles and fine lines. Fillers offer long-lasting results and are administered through small injections. Facial fillers “fill in” creases and folds in the face in spots which have lost collagen and fat.

How Long Does an Injectable Filler Treatment Take?

For most patients, the filler injections take between 10 and 20 minutes. The exact amount of time depends on the patient and how many injections are being made. When a filler treatment is chosen, a set of small injections under the surface of the skin will be performed and the amount administered will depend on what brand of filler is being used and how large the crease, depression, or wrinkle is.

What are the Results of Injectable Fillers?

Patients will notice results almost immediately following treatment including smoother skin, reduced appearance of fine lines around the eyes, nose, and mouth. Most facial filler injections will last between 6-18 months. Each specific brand offers slightly different results and may last longer or shorter than the others. Using these treatments in combination with additional cosmetic and restorative skin treatments can delay the signs of aging and help patients to look as good as they feel. Dermal facial injections do not require a long recovery time, and patients should able to return to work or other activities as soon as the injection process is completed. For the first 24-hours, patients may have to avoid excessive activity as well as exposure to the sun and heat in order to allow the skin to heal. There can also be some temporary minor bruising, tenderness, redness, or numbness at the injection site.
